Cathedral City Approves Temporary Moratorium On Short Term Vacation Rental
The moratorium approved by the City Council on Wednesday evening will halt new short-term vacation rental applications for at least 45 days in Cathedral City while the city looks at how it can increase enforcement on problem rentals. There were 36 noise-related calls at 22 short-term rental properties between January and May 2019, but six rentals accounted for most of those calls. The only exception to the moratorium is for new applicants from properties that are located within a homeowners association (HOA) and the HOA explicitly allows and provides a letter in support of short-term rentals.
The short-term vacation rental Task Force, made up of city staff, short-term vacation rental homeowners, property managers, and neighbors of short-term vacation rental properties will meet in mid-July to review the current situation, look at solutions found by other cities, and propose new guidelines and enforcement solutions to the city council.
Existing rentals and pending applications will not be impacted.
